Our Values

Over the years I have become increasingly aware of the devastating impact of climate change & how our everyday actions can contribute. It quite honestly really upsets me to think that my children, their children & so on could live in such a different world. A world impacted by climate change that could have been prevented. How greed, complete disregard & lack of care has takes priority over our children's future.

At the same time it's not all doom & gloom. I will always be in awe of those organisations & individuals who are striving to make a difference, no matter how big or small. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

With the above taken in to consideration & my failure to find suitable eco-friendly options during my pregnancy with Seb. I decided I wanted to create a little haven to showcase environmentally conscious small businesses who share the love for sustainable products & fair trade. Who are ethically aware & are plastic free (or very nearly- it is a difficult plight). The need for natural & organic products was also an absolute must & I obviously wanted to spread awareness of the array of  amazing reusable products that are out there. Every item needed to be of quality & made to last. This way certain products could become 'pre-loved' & passed on to a new home in the aim to reduce waste.

I now have the absolute pleasure of working with both well known & small independent brands (the majority being mum run UK lovelies). Providing sustainable products & gifts in just one space. All my collaborations share an amazing ethos & are all in their own right have their own little mission to create a kinder way of living.

Why Do We Stock Only Organic Cotton?

The farming of cotton is a process that involves high volumes of pesticides & insecticides, which contributes to environmental pollution. It also exposes farmers & consumers to toxic carcinogenic chemicals that are used in production. Organic cotton does not require the use of these chemicals & therefore does not poison the surrounding water, soil or air. Farmers are also spared from health problems caused by cotton production.

Unfortunately both cotton & organic cotton requires a huge amount of water & energy in both it's production & it's harvesting. That's when we have to look for more sustainable fabrics. Hemp is certainly a great contender.

Please don't be fooled by the huge amounts of 'GREENWASHING' that is out there in relation to bamboo 'Fabric'. Bamboo does have it's benefits, but the process that bamboo requires to get from a plant to fabric is again highly chemical intensive. However, if the Lyocell process is used (a closed loop system) the chemicals that are used to produce the fabric are recycled.

Unfortunately I have found that both cotton & bamboo are widely used in the use of products needed for Seb & I to function. I therefore had to make a decision & I made the decision based on what I believed was important. I hate 'greenwashing' & have therefore decided to stay clear of brands that state bamboo is the all singing all dancing, most eco friendly fabric ever. I just don't believe this is the case & maintain that brands should be transparent. It does however make my job of sourcing products so much more difficult, but I'm sticking to what I believe in.

I therefore will only stock organic cotton, GOTS certified when possible. GOTS is a textile production certification that limits the use of toxic bleaches, dyes and other chemical inputs during the production process of textiles. It is internationally recognised as the toughest organic textile standard because it goes far beyond verifying the organic farming process to include every step of manufacturing. It also means that there are strict guidelines relating to social & environmental standards, treating their employees & the earth with respect.

FSC Certified

I'll be honest, when I started my initial research last year I welcomed the use of the FSC certification. The Forestry Stewardship Council is an international  non-profit organisation that promotes responsible management of the world's forests. Unfortunately more recently I have read some conflicting tales. I will however remain in support of this certification at this moment in time as there is some clear benefits. I therefore will favour the FSC certification over none certified options.

Our Packaging Pledge

Packaging is such a bugbear of mine. I'm sure you have all received something that was packaged in either a totally unnecessary sized box or filled with equally unnecessary plastic wrap- just grim.

As much as we know we could do more to make our gift boxes look even more beautiful. I spend my days asking, 'is this really necessary?'. So much energy & waste is generated through the manufacturing process & the actual packaging itself. I just can't bring myself to add anything further. Our gift boxes will remain simple, but elegant & true to our ethos.

I therefore pledge that I will only use recycled & recyclable materials. We only use brown paper boxes & brown paper for postage wrap. We do not use the white equivalent- did you know that white paper is bleached? We only use brown paper tape, natural jute twine & organic cotton ribbon. Orders do not include a printed invoice in an effort to reduce waste. Our 'bunny tales' are grown on a UK farm & our packaging is plastic free, yay!

We would love it if you could reuse our boxes, tissue paper, twine & ribbon!

I have also decided to reuse any other packaging that comes into my home for any 'none gifting' option. So please do not be alarmed if you receive a random bag or box & think what an earth is this? It will be from us! I haven't taken this decision lightly, but feel it is necessary. What is the point of throwing away a perfectly reusable mail bag or box after just one use? I would hope if you can, that you manage to reuse it again too!

An Honest Mum

I sometimes find the whole thing difficult to comprehend if I'm honest. Obviously my personal actions & Seb and I do have an impact. I therefore do not & will never claim to be perfect. I'm by far no expert in the field of climate change & sustainability. There will always be things to improve & things to learn. What I do promise is that I will always do my best to provide you with beautiful products that are kinder to ourselves & our planet. I'm just a mum with a little dream with the hope of making greener options more accessible & the need for the reasons why known.

xXx
